Kalua pork is a traditional Hawaiian dish that dates back to the time of the island’s ancient Polynesians. They would roast whole pigs in underground imu ovens, imparting a unique smoky flavor. The modern version of kalua pork is much easier to prepare, especially when using a crockpot, but still aims to capture the essence of this cherished cultural dish. The addition of liquid smoke replicates the earthy flavors of the original imu cooking technique, delivering an authentic taste of Hawaii right in your kitchen.

This recipe is perfect for various occasions. Whether you’re hosting a luau-themed party, celebrating a family gathering, or simply enjoying a weeknight dinner, Hawaiian Kalua Pork & Cabbage can fit any event. Its simplicity and delicious flavor make it a hit among both family and friends, and leftovers can easily be transformed into sandwiches or salads, ensuring no food goes to waste.
